Time for a Change

Because of change, modern society in terms of its political and economic structure has become dysfunctional. The interests of those that control the power of the nation-state has become its liability. Because they see their own interests in national terms, the political elites would first save themselves in a effort to save what they see as the best of the nation.

In order to remain relevant, nation-states have provided the corporate sector with the natural resources and labor as well as market for the disposal of their products. Because people feel that they are not receiving from government what they voted for, people everywhere are frustrated with their political establishment and its lack of effectiveness.

People feel alienated in a system in which they see themselves as being powerless over their own lives and at the mercy of those that they have elected into office. In the face of global events, the old structures appear powerless and seem to have lost their effectiveness in a world that is mainly dictated by economic interests.

The global problems that we are now facing are all the result of the nation-state system’s inability to control global events. In fact the nation-state system is being controlled by the global events of their own making. The corporate institutions, made possible by the nation-state now determines the paths that the nation-state must follow.

Today they not only provide use with what we have to consume, they also provide us with our employment. It is the corporate sector that determines how we will live or if we should die. Their property rights have trumped our human rights. Humanity and our natural environment have become mere resources to be exploited for profit and personal gain.

Our nation-state system has led us into an era of neo-corporativism in which corporations determine our future and the desires of the few dictate the lives of the many.

If we are to determine our own development, then we need to take control of it ourselves. We need to be the ones that determine what kinds of institutions develop based on our need for them. In other words societies of the future must be based on the needs of the public that they serve.

Problem Determined Change

If history teaches us anything, it teaches us that we are the result of what we have had to overcome. Every era is a result of the inabilities of the pervious era in meeting the problems that arose.  In the past, change dictated what would develop and today is no exception. We have entered the next era of human development know as globalization. This globalization that began with finance and industrialization has now become cultural and popular, which has resulted in creating a new level of global social consciousness in which our problems are seen to be global in nature requiring a global response.

Back in Action

Well, this time I hope there won’t be another setback. On 10/2/09 in my Returning To Blogging I hoped that I was ready, but nature showed me the error of my over ambition.  Mother nature let me know that the same muscles that I use to blog with were also the muscles that I was supposed to allow to relax. But now I have been told that I can return to blogging in moderation. So I will begin blogging again by talking about change and how it has affected us in the past and how it is affecting us today. I begin with change because we are in the greatest period of change in the history of mankind. How we react to this change will determine if we as humanity survive as well as the course that our planet will have to take in response.

Welcome to my website!

The purpose of this website is to contribute to the ongoing discussions concerning the many issues of the day. By publicizing my ideas I hope that they will add to a better understanding of the problems we face as well as contribute to how we can over come them.

Throughout human history when the need to change has become painfully apparent, change does occur. This is just such a time. The pressures of the global age and the problems that have resulted from it are forcing us to re-evaluate just who we are as human beings, as well as what our role within the world really is.

No one is able to predict the future and I am no exception, but the future can be guided in the direction that we wish it to go.  The way we see ourselves has always determined the kind of society that has developed around us. Therefore, the way that we see ourselves in the present will determine the kind of societies that will develop in the future.

To see ourselves differently will require that we see and do things that are different from the ways that we have done them before.  Also in order to see ourselves differently, we will need to think differently and in order to think differently, we will need to educate ourselves differently and organize ourselves differently than we do today.

What my blogs will deal with will be a number of topics dealing with the various issues of concern to me personally as well as those that confront us all. I will also present new ideas and concepts from art and art history to politics and education as well as economics and culture. But I will not just highlight the conditions and problems that we face, I will also offer solutions that I feel will allow us to effectively deal with them.
