What makes us Human?

What is it that makes us really human? Some say that it is because we use tools. But we now have evidence that chimpanzees also make and use tools. Other say it is because we have emotions that animals do not. But this too has now been debunked by science. I say what makes us human is that we live in a world of our own making that defines who we are within it.

We are born in this self-made world that defines us as particular people based on the national cultures that we are raised with. It is the culture that we inherited from our parents and society that defines us to others as well as ethnically to ourselves. But it is the culture that we create for ourselves based on the personal choices we make that is the one that we self-identify with.

Being human can mean having emotions and coping with death, but that’s not all. What makes us human can be scientifically said as our skin, eyes, hands with 10 fingers, and feet, but that doesn’t make us exactly human, does it? We do self-identify ourselves as human beings having traits, but to me there is no real reason what makes us human. Scientifically we are human, but emotionally, we can be just as ruthless, and brutal as any other animal in the world.

I believe what makes us human; is through knowledge. I believe when we were cavemen, we were just little high in the hierarchy. As today, we are top dog of all of the mammals.

After reading this short blog, I really have to agree with your ideas of personal identity. In my opinion, I believe that as humans, we innately take on the roles given to us from birth. Our ability to become someone with substance, but beginning as a blank canvas. I think that every aspect of our lives dictate the way we develop and solidify our own identity. From our family life, to national heritage, to sexuality, we become what we experience.

This was a good post, it really made me think. What is the definition of human, in reality? There’s no real definition and I believe that everyone holds their own opinion to what really defines a human being. Being able to make our own choices, maybe? Being able to form our own languages and being superior to animals, and being able to understand complex situations. Some might believe that animals and humans have no difference, except for the physical attributes and language, but if we could communicate with animals, they might be thinking the same as us. How do you really define what a human is? I think it varies from person to person, but I personally don’t believe you can really define a human. Some human beings act like animals, while some animals act like humans. How do you know which one is acting like which?

every person has their own definition and opinion to the word human. my definition is no different to the one of the word animal. human eat, animals eat, humans reproduce, animals reproduce, humans think, animals think. we are all one in the end. i believe we are just two different species , and we just know how to market, and how to make a country , and one that is in deep debt.

  6. Genoveva Poblano says:

What makes us different than animals is that we were given the ability to write. This allows is to be able to have a written language and a formal way of speaking. Without these abilities we would not be able to be the civilized society that we are today.

What makes us unique to every other species on Earth is not just how we look, or what kind of tools we use, but how we think. Yes there are many intelligent animals in the world and some can sometimes understand emotions or how to use tools, but they can not change their own situation. If we are tired of living in a rainy area we can build shelter or better yet move to an area of the world that does not rain. Not only do we have complete control over our lives, but we can ponder a problem and come to a workable conclution to solve it. We create beautiful pieces of art and in one action change the world. We as humans are truely unique and no species comes close to what we can do.

Definitely, Human lives in a world s/he made. what makes us human is our intelligence and ability to do what we believe in. Our new ways to explore our world and things outside of it. We can remain human if we learn from our mistakes. No matter how intelligent an animal is, it can not be the way humans are. If we become less selffish, some difference will always remain between human and animals.

What makes us human is our ability to think critically. We we have problems we do not just see black and white, we can weigh in various different factors and make a decision using this method. It also has to do with being able to have different emotions and express them through different kinds of art. We can feel an emotion and create art out of this emotion and someone else can see this and interpret the art in a completely different way.

I really enjoy this analysis because it proves that regardless of the status that one is born with, each person is able to create their own identity within society. Everyone has unlimited possibilities to create an image for themselves that may be unlike that of anyone else. I believe that is what makes us human; our ability to create radical change due to our psychological freedom of choice and opinion.
