Making Education Flexible and Relevant

The time to tailor degrees to the abilities of the student instead of forcing every student to conform to a single standard has come. In a world with increasing complexity, the instruction of society in a method devised to conform to a single standard is not only shortsighted but also wasteful. Tomorrow will require that we be able to recreate ourselves many times over which will necessitate that we have available to us the means necessary to reinvent ourselves. The educational systems that we have in place today were not designed to deal with the complex needs that a global tomorrow will require.

The world is entering a time of increasing change when the need for a flexible education system that can tailor itself to the needs of both the industries of society as well as the individual needs of those that will be staffing them, will continually increase. Tomorrow’s industries will need to be able to organize themselves to fit the particular requirements of specific projects and programs that they would be designed to provide. This would require that those people that were to staff these new types of industries would also have to be as flexible as the industries that need them.

Augmenting our Education System in New Ways

We have entered a time when education is becoming evermore important and our current education systems can’t keep up. We will need a new way of massively providing education to an increasingly larger part of the population. In a world that will require a new way of looking at ourselves, we will need an education system that will be capable of growing and changing with the needs of the public.

To achieve this, a new way of educating ourselves must precede it. What I am proposing is a radically new way of educating ourselves that will unleash our potential. This would allow us to envision what we now can’t even image, which will permit us to obtain what is now unattainable to us.

We need a new way of educating ourselves, one that is flexible and will allow us to take advantage of our strengths as well as shore-up our weaknesses. Therefore, instead of everyone going for a single standard, I suggest that we create many standards to fit our many possibilities. This would allow many different forms of education to development to meet the varied needs that the public will have.

New Conditions Require a New Way of Educating

In a time when the new conditions that we face are global in nature, it will require a new way of educating ourselves to be able to even see ourselves within this new reality. Therefore, in order to extend our educational capabilities, we need to create a new educational system that can meet the increasing needs of society and its students.

We need to create a new parallel education system that can augment our current education system. It would have to work in concert with today’s educational systems so that they could nourish each other. It would also have to be a decentralized and flexible system because it would also have to be able to establish itself around the needs of the student as well as those of society and its institutions. And it would have to be able to locate itself anywhere the educational need called for them to be applied.

Rethinking our Education system

Our current education system is over-stretched and out of focus. It was designed to educate us about the things of the past. And therefore it has been about disseminating the ideas of the past and not to transcend them.

Institutions reflect the ideas of the era in which they were formed. Therefore, today’s education system is a result of the time that created it. Our education system today, like all education systems in general, was formed to reinforce the ideas of the past in the name of maintaining the present. Because education systems in general were not structured to think of tomorrow as something not directly linked to the past, they could not see the future for the past.

This preoccupation with the past has determined our way of thinking about the function of education. Because our current education system is backward looking it finds it difficult to cope with the changing situations that it and today’s students find themselves in.

While in some cases this connection with the past is necessary as a foundation, in terms of envisioning a new future beyond our past, our education system was not designed to create something different from the past.

To overcome the problems that tomorrow will bring, we will need a new way of seeing ourselves beyond the ways of the past.  In order to create a new future, what will be required is to create an education system that will allow us to separate ourselves from our past. This will require that we develop new ways of thinking about the future that will allow us to visualize ourselves differently than we have in the past.

We Need a New Way of Providing Education

In a world that is continually changing, the challenges that will be faced by us must be preceded by a new way of seeing. Therefore, instead of everyone adhering to a single educational standard that tends to fail more than educate, I suggest that we create many different types of educational standards to tap the abilities of the people that we will need to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

To meet these new challenges will require that we tap all of our human capabilities, which will necessitate developing the many different ways of education needed to establish them. What I am proposing is opening up education to new ways of providing our educational needs that will give us the flexibility needed to allow us to change with the needs of society.

This would allow us to provide ourselves with multiple forms of education that will permit us to take advantage of our strengths, which will allow us to reinvent ourselves in new ways. This open form of education would permit us to unleash our human potential and obtain for ourselves what is now unattainable.

America is an idea

America is an idea. It is about the freedom to pursue what you want to be. It is about being what you wish to be tomorrow and today.  As an idea, America is not just for Americas, it is for all those that believe in the idea of freedom and liberty for all and the opportunities necessary to achieve them.

What is America?

What many other countries see as a detriment is what gives America its strength and makes it unique. America’s sense of itself is based on how it sees itself in terms of its future and not on how it saw itself in the past as other nations tend to do. While other counties tend to see themselves in terms of where they came from, America is always about where it is going.

It has been said that America is an idea, which is what I believe allows America to change as quickly as its idea of itself changes. The fact that there are as many Americas as there are ways to describe her, is what makes America unique. There never was a single sense of what America was or what America is and there never will be if America is to remain America.

Banks and Us

The banks are holding us hostage to their bottom-line. Our current financial crisis has shown us that the banks that provide us with the currency that is the blood of our economy are into it for their own purposes.

What we need to do is to make the Federal Reserve Bank, which is a private bank and the one that feeds all of the other banks, our national bank owned and directed by us. Banks need to know that they are not there to do as they please at our expense, but instead that they are only there to work for us, because they have no function without us.

Living Sustainably

The needs of the natural environment can only be met if we relate to it in a sustainable way. This sustainable way of connecting to the natural environment must be interwoven with our capability to recycle as many of its natural resources as we can.

Rethinking Society

The kind of societies will we have in the future will be determined by what we consider important to us. During these times of economic and social difficulties we have an opportunity to reevaluate what is important to us individually and collectively.

In a world of increasing shortages, a better management of our resources is not only required but necessary. In order to give ourselves an idea of just what that would be, we will need to determine just what kinds of societies we wish for ourselves. This would allow us to define our relationship with the natural resources that we would need in order to maintain ourselves in the manner that we envision.
